My work has been increasingly preoccupied with the continued development of microtonal composition.
While most Western music uses 12 Tone Equal Temperament, this represents just one approach to organising pitch. Historically, musicians worldwide have used countless tuning systems, each offering unique harmonic colours and emotional possibilities.
I was able to explore and research microtonality and alternative tuning systems as part of my degree. My work prioritises 31-EDO and 1/4 Comma Meantone Temperament, drawing inspiration from Just Intonation's pure mathematical relationships. This work creates music with entirely new harmonic textures and sounds that simply cannot exist in conventional tuning.
